removing rear valance

I will be receiving MB911's 2 in 2 out muffler in a couple of days so I am going to have to remove the rear valance on my 83SC to make the cutout for the passenger side pipe, can I remove the valance without removing the rubber bumpers?I am wondering if the rubber bumpers cover some of the screws that hold the valance on?If I do have to remove the bumpers can I access the screws that hold the bumpers on after I remove the muffler?Any advice welcome.

Why not just take off the bumper with the rear valence? It is held on by only four bolts behind the rubber trim piece. Then there are two small (8mm?) bolts on each accordian to remove and the whole thing slides off.

If I remember correctly, you can remove the rear valance without messing with the reat of the bumper assembly. Look under your car for the bolts that secure it.

rjp911 is right the bumperettes do not cover any of the bolts. Good luck with that new muffler.

If I remember correctly (it's been a couple of years) I did have to remove my bumperettes to get the valance off. It wasn't any big deal, though.

There are 6 or eight big phillips screws that hold on the valance. Squirt some thread goo on and then using a big screwdriver go at it. It comes right off, no need to remove anything else.

Also, there is a heat shield on the back side held on by three 10mm screws. Hit these with some thread goo too... They might break off... Or, they might already be gone...

No worries. Piece of cake. .5 beer job...

You shouldn't have to remove the rubber to get the valance off. For me an impact driver (you know, the kind you hit with a hammer) really helps get the screws out.
