key blank insert - converting to lighted keys
I wanted to take my ignition key blank out of my broken red pastic holder and use it in a nice lighted holder, but made a slight tactical error in assuming the blank inserts were the same. They aren't (see photo).
And, of course, I dropped the lighted key holder while setting it up for the photo, so .... 1. Can I just take the two inserts to a locksmith and ask him to cut the one with no tab on it to match the one with a wide tab? Or is there some other complexity lurking.... 2. The tiny metal strip to the right of the lighted holder fell out when I dropped the holder. Where does it go? And which end goes where (one end is crimped, the other flat). 3. For the insert with the wide tab, how can I make it usable? The plastic thing it was in gave up the ghost (at top in photo) and is split/cracked. Can I order another one and put the insert in it or are they just molded right around the insert? Thx! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads4/k1099777989.jpg |
How's this?

I can now accomplish my mission -- thanks.
Anybody know about the other issues? |

Don't forget that the red keytop is from a valet key and may not open the glove box (or trunk if a targa) Note differences between the two keys: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1099792949.jpg Tim |
Actually, my car has been rekeyed at least twice. THe valet key fits everything. But thanks.
Now -- anybody know if I can get some sort of thing to hold the insert with the wide tab on it? |
