I just couldn't leave it alone

This is the 73 coupe I bought last summer

And now

After seeing all the cool RS, RSR, Groupe R, GroupeB, and lightweight early cars , I can't deceid which way to go. I have some rust repair to do. The fender attachment posts and the front fenders were in poor shape. The fenders looked ok till I pulled them off. They were rusted where they attached.

The car was originally silver but there is no signs of it where I sanded around the rockers and fender. The inside doors and interior shows some though.

Im leaning to the lightweight look. I may delete the trim and go with RS carpet. But some flares would look cool to. I would think the lightweight look would be cheaper though and this will just be a weekend street toy.

Here is an engine pic

I don't know what up with the fuel filter and accumulator. I know this is not right. The engine is actually a 72 block but I have no idea about the cis. I assume they just swithced the top end over but I don't know. It does seem to run good. I picked the car up about 150 miles from home and drove it here with no problems. I go out and start it from time to time and exept for some smoke at start up, if its been sitting, it seems fine.

Yes, I have a 3.6 that will go into the RSR look. The RS look will be for the Wifey, Read looong term project...
Both are 71T. One has a modified 2.2 that I will run in the wifes car for a little wile, it will eventually have a 3.0/3.2.

All is well, I need to go to texas to pick up number 2, It is at my brothers.
The second one gives me more time in the winter, only 1 spot of rust that may be or may not be a real concern. The rest is very solid. You saw the first and you seen what I have to do to it.
Surprisingly the first one, was not as bad as I thought.
The rockers were on the outside only....

It looked darn good before you started messing with it except for the cheap tires. I'm sure it'll look even better once you've had your way with it.

I wasn't happy with the paint. The rocker on the drivers side also didn't look quite right. First I found some bondo, but it was over a welded patch so that wasn't so bad.

I want to make this a nice driver. I just have to make up my mind on what I'm going to do with it.

Any suggestions?

Dude, are you insane?? - Cutting up that nice car to make an R-car or RSR look?? IMHO, that is a GREAT idea and a great way to dress up a T. Looking forward to seeing your work in progress. Any color choice? Back to silver?

This is what I did to fit a later filter in my 1973.5 CIS:

The acuumulator is stock for the car and in the stock location.

Later cars are arranged like this:

Thanks Harry. What I dont get is there is a line running out of the bottom of the accumulator that run into a T I believe. Did the later models have this. Is there a way to tell what year CIS is on the car. Does it make a difference.

I would think that the line coming into the bottom of the accumulator is the one from the fuel pump. If that is the case, I would that this is not a good location for a tee.

FWIW, the stock install of my 1973 looked like this:

Thanks Bob, thats what Im thinking about. I'll probably repaint in silver though. I also like your car.

Harry , the line comming out of the bottom is a small line the same as from the fuel distributor. I'll try and get a better pic. The guy I bought it from actually had two fuel pumps on the car. I still havn't figured that out. There was an original one in the stock location and then he had an inline one before the accumulator. I took the inline one off and the car seems to run fine. He had a local Porche salvage yard do the work for him and I don't know if they were just selling parts or what. I don't have alot in the car at this time so I figure it was worth the gamble.

Bob's car looks nice but I also like the early RS cars as well. The RSR is a bit over the top for me on a street car but its up to the individual.

Agree that your filter and plumbing needs to be re-arranged. You might want to yank the engine/tranny and detail the engine compartment when you do all of this, and that would be a perfect time to clean up the plumbing and install a new insulation on the firewall.

FWIW, here is the arrangement of the system per the PET:

The line (#18) from the fuel pump goes to the accumulator (#19) which then flow into the Filter (#23). The outlet of the filter goes to the fuel distributor. As you can see, there is no second line and there is only one fuel pump.

Here is what I have.

I have a line going from the fuel pump to the accumulator that then goes to the fuel filter and then to the fuel distributor. I also have a fitting on the bottom of the accumulator that goes to the bracket shown here.

Im guessing that this is a setup for another year. I have a 73.5 accumulator and filer bracket that I purchased and it is obviously different. I can fab a bracket for what I have but I'd like to know what to order if I need parts in the future.

I can't see very well the extra line that goes to the fuel accumulator. But I am thinking that the car might have had an MFI before and the plumbing is a bit different.

There is thread here where they show the details of the MFI Fuel filter and the there are four connections to the filter. You can see it here: MFI Fuel Starvation...Out of ideas.....help please
