How do I remove large oil line to motor nut ?
The nut that connects the large oil line down by the return and pressure pumps, if I try to turn the large nut the whole line moves.
I need this off before splitting the case. Thanks. |
Sounds like you need two wrenches.....they need to e "cracked loose to remove the outer one first....

I do see what appears a thin nut before the large one, is there a special (thin) wrench needed here? If so do both these nuts turn counterclockwise simultaneously with two wrenches acting at the same time? I only have one large cresent wrench that fits the outer nut. Thanks |
Yeah....you need to keep that from turning. There are thin wrenches for that but I have been able to use a vice grip and wrench to crack them loose. Not the "proper' way but works...take care in the manuver to not "chinger" up the nuts....

I used two "spud wrenches" from Home Depot to remove my oil lines this summer. Put one on the rear nut, then turn the front not counter clockwise to remove. I also sprayed PBBlaster first...

Jim Richards in the Eng. Build forum says 32 mm thin wrench.
So do I assume the thin nut should be turned and the large one does not? Or do both turn together? (Don't want to ruin the line) Thanks |
I think the thin nut is actually the nipple and the larger cap nut is the one that should be turned counter-holding the thin nut while you try to open. Unless I misunderstand what you are doing?
|
Yup....the inner one is a double male fitting and the oil line has a female fitting. It's best to remove the oil line first and the double male after.

OK, so from what I understand, I should hold the thin nut firm, while attempting to turn the large outer nut, as unfortunately both the nuts are turning together.
Being the case, I'll have to find a 32 "thin" wrench? Thanks for the help |
I just use two BIG adjustable wrenches.

HGP,
Whenever you loosen or tighten a nut on a line it is critical that you use 2 wrenches. If you use only 1 wrench and it is likely that you will wreck the line just because you will twist it. Hold the other nut with another wrench so that takes the twisting force. To get the idea, jam two nuts on one bolt, then hold one with a wrench while loosening the other. Ned |
I'll probably get reprimanded by the experts for this, but... I used two large pipe wrenches I had laying around. I wrapped a rag around the oil line nuts, put the wrenches on there, put my foot on one and grabbed the other one with both hands. It worked like a charm. I couldn't get the damn things loose with the correct sized thin wrenches. There was zero damage to the oil lines or nuts, and 5k miles later all is fine.
