Looking for a factory short shift kit (M-241)
 

Trying to track down a new factory short shift kit to add to my '84 Carrera but they are apparently getting hard to find. Any leads out there???

Get a decent shifter from WEVO or JWest

Maybe it's just my mechanic (I'm still new to all of this) but I have been told to steer clear of anything but the real deal when it come to short shift kits

Actually, just quickly checked the WEVO site ($500+) and the JWest site. Jwest has pulled their product for redesign....

Yep, they cost more, but besides shortening the throw of the lever, they also improve the shifting
A Porsche shortshift kit will only make things worse...

See if you can find someone local who has either one (WEVO or JWest).
You'll be impressed.

This ebay auction is asking approx. double what you can get it for from many vendors.

I would suggest the factory short shifter over any other comparable aftermarket short shifter (Weltmeister). The FSS doesn't have quite the reduction in throw distance, but you give up shifting ease for that decrease distance. I use the FSS and it feels fine; just don't rush the shifts.

I guess you have not noticed yet Sherwood, the FSS seems to have become NLA (see Pelican's catalog). I'm sure that's the reason for the high auction price!

Back in the summer I purchased the M-241 from these guys and the price was $149, however, I noticed now the new price is $239. (supply and demand is alive and well)

According to Porsche, the FSS is no longer being made and is no longer stocked at depot (Atlanta, Ontario, and Bremerhaven). What dealers have stock are the only ones left.

Seine is good, not a short shift though.

I think your mechanic is talking about the weltmeister kits etc. he is not talking about the Wevo or Renn shift. The rennshift is availble from Pelican, check it out.

OOps rennshift Jwest same thing. Looks like good stuff. FYI, if you shorten the throw it increases the leverage and makes for more grinding (See Sherwood above). There is no subsititute for good synchros. (All here say my 915 needs a rebuild, no personal experience).

The shorter the throw, the less leverage when shifting. This equates to a more notchier feel shifting from gear to gear. You have to take it slower in shifting as well. The shorter travel means you could shift faster (all things being equal) and 915s don't prefer to be rushed.
