To clarify: I only used the phone book and jack to lift the engine a bit so that I could swap out the old mounts. All other times to work underneath the car, I use a jack on those pad things that fit into the side of the car and then use jack stands underneath the car.

On a side note, I’ve spent my entire working career in telecom. I distinctly remember when we sold off the Yellow Pages. My how times have changed.

Back to technical content... I know it’s probably safe to jack this way. I have never been able to bring myself to do it. If something could go wrong, it would happen to me. So I’ve just carried on with the old approach.

I have been using my QuickJack for about a year now. Best investment I have ever made. It’s faster and safer and I can use it with all the cars. It is so handy.

Just order something from Aircraft Spruce. You will get a nice thick catalog with the order, and then every few months a new one arrives. Lots of good stuff in there even for non pilots.

I ordered ducts from them a long time ago. Somehow I didn't get on their mailing list!

Aircraft Spruce East is right down the road on the south side of Atlanta is Peachtree City. Had I known that when I ordered, I probably just would've driven down there! :D
