little holes next to wiper arm

Well, Im confused. As a new owner of an 86 911 targa, I find a strange little "something" on the dash. It sits on the right side of the wiper arm on the dash. It has 2 small slits, that after looking at it, seems to have nothing attached to it. There is a small hose in back of this that seems to fit, but I havent traced the origin of the hose. Any help to this problem. Is it a heater -type source or what? Thanks for a reply

I'm thinking temperature sensor for auto heat. Does your car have the auto heat?

I dont know? How would this sense heat in the cabin? I'm fixing the wiper switch this weekend with a new one, and while taking the old one out, I found a small hose, about 1/2 I/D that looked like it didnt fit anywhere. Does this small hose suck air in to tell what temp it should be or what?
