Stereo Install Help

Trying to replace some POS cassette stereo in the 911 with a Blaupunkt Madison CD127 I picked up cheap. Only looking for basic radio and cd so this should be fine in the cab.

Anyway, the Blaupunkt has a red and a white RCA female jack for the speakers and my car has the old zip cord. Is there an easy way to adapt?

Also, the fader in the console is still in tact, should I look to replace the wiring and remove at this point?

John

I don't know much about the Blaupunkt Madison in particular, but NO you cannot drive speakers with the pre-outs(the RCA plugs). They run at extremely low power and are only used to provide a signal to an amp or other device. It is not uncommon for a head unit to be "unpowered" and that may be just what you have here, it needs an amp to function.

Are you saying there are no speaker wires coming out of the back of the unit (so you probably have about 5-6 wires total plus the RCA's)?

If that is the case, you need an amp.

Thanks, got it. I have an old amp here as well and now it all makes sense. Now I'm wondering if a small amp will fit up under the dash.

Depending how small it can fit on the backside of the wooden floor board like were the factory amp resides in a car that has one. Yes you should rewire around the fader if using an amp, or even a high powered deck for that matter.

yea...that fader is junk. just leave it in place but wire direct to the speakers from a 4 channel amp. A two channel may work, but the impedednces will dip pretty low, could cause issues. use the head units fader circuit, and the 4 RCAs that come out of it if possible.

the above says it john
lose the fader, amp can go under passenger seat if it doesn't fit behind the floor panel.
if you have 4 speakers and a quality 2 channel amp you could run all 4 off the 2 channels, but the rears WILL over power the fronts, so maybe just run the doors.
pm me if you get stuck, i'm in akron still.
i'll pm you my cell #
