Whats different in 1980's Carrera engines?
 
Looking thru my book its show the 84-86 carrera engines 200 hp at 5900

I think the DME is programmed slightly more aggressively.

I wrote a letter 10 years ago to Bruce Anderson asking this very question. My owners manual said 200 HP the book say 207/217 and some magazines said 214. Bruce told me that most of the discrepancy is due to different units of measure as in DIN vs SAE net. He also said on the dino he found no diffences between years and they all made around 217 din HP. I believe there maybe some chip changes between the years that would explain why Porsche changed the numbers.

If you put in an aftermarket chip it shouldn't matter what year your car is as the internals are identical so they should all make the same HP with the same chip.
