Blaupunkt repair?

Looking for a PNW or W. Coast shop to repair an early blaupunkt Frankfurt AM FM SW radio. (AM & SW don't function--FM fine)--also, a dash mounted speaker source? Thanks, Steve.

Unfortunately I think Old Radios is based in Spain.

---Prior to posting the above inquiry, I did a "search" on Pelican, and the early 911 registry---was able to locate an individual by the name of Willy Wilkes -- euroradio@ ignetsys.net .I believe he is East Coast (which certainly is not a problem), have yet to contact him. Has anyone had experience with him?? Will do so in the absence of anyone closer. I see the radio source (in Spain) has a Frankfurt for sale --- $500---that is a real eye opener! Thanks Again, Steve

Hello,

yes, we're in Spain, so shipping would be too expensive ...
What's the problem with your radio, I may be able to give you some clues.

Try Walter Odemer in LA. They fix the Hirshmann antennae, and might know who to send your Blaupunkt to.

Josep. Thanks for the response. FM band works fine--AM and Shortwave emit only a faint buzz, no distinguishable audio sounds. Removed cover of tuning/radio (not SW) module, looking for toasted components ect, found nothing unusual--to the layman). Radio has lain dormant for perhaps 20 years (in car), as I recall, both (AM SW) were operational when parked(This is almost too far back to recall). Cleaned multipronged plugin suspecting corrosion (may still be) to no avail. All pushbuttons operate freely, as do tuning and volume knobs. Thanks for responding, condolences to you and your countrymen, we live in a crazy world. Steve in N Idaho.

Midwest Electronics is the North American contact for all issues related to Blaupunkt. They are on the web or you can reach them by phone. A search should turn them up.

Funny coincidence...I'm currently in the hunt for a replacement speaker. Becker of North America may have an exact fit new speaker, but I'm in the middle of checking out the dimentions. Looking at pics they sent, their part #018-872-882 just may be it. They also restore old Becker radios, may do Blaupunkt at well? www.beckerautosound.com Their toll free number is 888-423-3537. If their speaker doesn't pan out, I've found a reconing service that says they can fix my original speaker for $50 plus $7.50 shipping. You can email them @ rjmcgee@voyager.net. IF the new speaker from Becker doesn't work out, I plan on shipping to them, waiting the 3 weeks turnaround they stated.

Steve,

seems that your radio is in quite good condition as the most important faults come from knobs or FM reception. You should buy an electronic contact cleaner spray and use it in the switch that moves internally when you push the pushbuttons from FM to AM or viceversa.

Thanks for the condolences, crazy world, never know what will be next ...

Josep, Thanks for the suggestion--will give it a try. PWD72s, in my searching, I did record a source for speakers called "K-Speed" in Huntington Beach Ca., (714) 847-5796, with the notation "Blaupunkt speakers" Have yet to call them--thought I'd let this post run it's course than will do so--I'll post results.
To all others, Thank You very much! Steve from N. Idaho.

Steve,

Let us know if you find the problem. My 81SC Blaupunkt radio does exactly the same thing....FM works fine, but only a light buzz with AM. When I disconnect the antenna, FM no longer works and the AM faint buzz stops, so I don't think it is the antenna. Anyway, we probably have the same problem.

Mike

I have an old manual from a Blaupunkt "Reno" tape deck that has a list of nation-wide authorized service centers. The only one listed for Idaho was "Gasworks Modifications" 5563 Kendall Street, Boise, 208-323-0861
Granted, this is an old manual, so they might not even be around any more. Other PNW centers listed are as follows:

WA:
Bellevue Audio Service - 425-453-0566
Custom Services - 206-622-4672
Radio 1 - 206-622-9777
Tape Town - 206-623-7613

OR:
Smeed Sound - 503-686-1654
Tom's Radio - 503-242-9057

I can also fax you the complete nation-wide list if needed.

I used them to repair a Blaupunkt that was still under warranty. Very quick service, and they are local to me, but I still ship it to them.

Which year is your radio? Can you tell me the full code on the side sticker including letters?
I may have the schematic.

Thanks

Josep

I believe it is original, car was built in the first half of 1965, paper sticker is intact--reading Frankfurt US W 338275. I gave it a good rinse--to no avail. Josep, Thanks very much for your help. You're up early. Have a good day!

FM Reception

Oldautoradio,

You mention the bad problems come with poor FM reception...maybe you can help me with some more info...

My 64 356 has a Frankfurt and the radio was working fine, FM and AM. Now only AM works...the dials and buttons, etc. work fine, but FM only produces static...

Any ideas where to possibly start? I have the original owners manuals, and schematics (down to the warranty card, but I am sure that's expired)

Is this something an rookie can trouble shoot?

Many thanks,
Jason
