Has anyone posted a definitive heater backdate for 3.2?
I have searched through the posts and I am still a bit confused as to what exactly is needed to backdate my heat. I wish to install SSI's and a suitable sports mufflerand at the same time want to clean up my engine bay. Help?!

I think what makes it so difficult is that there's all kinds of part #'s floating around for engine tin and shrouds, also info to re-wire front blowers at the controls between the seats, Looking for used left side shroud that may or may not fit right. Too much info
Im just going to bolt up the SSI and bens muffler and figure out the heat thing after install. I do plan on making my own fiberglass shroud though I'm pleased to be of absolutely no help good luck |

I'll try to be as simple as possible. The first photo show my engine prebackdate. The last pics are my engine to date. What was removed: AC and all brackets, heater blower and all ducts, side engine tin. Added was left and right diffuser from earlier cars, side engine tin with 2.5 inlets cut for flexible lines to SSI's, SSI's, The heat is very good. I just had my car out last night in 35 degree's. The biggest disadvantage is the heat is more variable with engine speed, but I can live with this. |

You can do all the backdating with the engine in place also. The side engine tin can also be cut with a hole saw to allow the flexible lines to reach the SSI's if you don't want the seperate parts. |
Backdate with A/C
It looks impossible to access the passenger side sheet metal if you have A/C?? Where would you purchase the shroud (behind the fan) that connects the heater hose coming from the HE? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1100577010.jpg

You have to remove a piece of metal that is blocking off this area and replace it with this right diffuser part. I do thing the AC bracket will interefere with this hose, but mine was removed prior. Heater backdating is generally required to have the AC removed also.

Anyway, to be honest I am not sure if the AC bracket will fit on a backdated 3.2 engine. On the other hand some pre-74 cars had AC so there must be a way to do it. Like 89911 says, you have to replace the right side blanking plate with a pre-74 diffuser as shown on my 3.2 that has been backdated: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1075074949.jpg |
89911, any chance you have part numbers for those orange heater hoses? I bought the shiny aluminum/cardboard ones, but would rather go with orange or black. Where to get them and what's the part no.? Thanks.
