Roll Bar Mounting Bolt??
I am looking for a bolt that the local bolt supplier does not have. I need a bolt that replaces the rear seat belt mounting bolt with one that has a hex head. I need the hex head because the current boly cannot be turned when inserted into the recessed hole on the roll bar. Perhaps I could grind a slot into it to turn it with a screwdriver, but I'd be afraid I could not get the required torque on it?
Any ideas?? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1100810920.jpg Sorry for the duplicate posts - wrong pic and could not delete the other thread? |
Ehh-- where's the bottom of your main hoop??? Generally you want the main hoop to be a single piece around it's whole length. Also is that bolt at the top of the upright (upper right of the picture) mounted in double sheer with plates on both sides? Does that bolt just go through a hole on both sides of the tubing or is there something more solid in inside the tube to spread out the loads?

To the original poster did you try ACE Hardware they have a pretty good selection of bolts. |
Vance - how far are you from Rt 90 and Rt 44 (Chardon area) Crile Rd Hardware has a great slection of bolts and other bits - you might find what you need. Or, give me more detail on what you need and I can swing by there and have a look.

The main hoop bolts into the bulkhead - see earlier post. It provides a detailed overview of the bar and installation.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/192540-bolt-roll-bar-cab.html I will give ACE a try and see what they have, I suspect there is another place in town that has what I am looking for. |
Gary - Unfortunately I don't know the specs, other than it is 9MM bolt. If you are there you can check there selection of metric hex/allen head bolts, specifically 9mm. Don't know the thread but I will check and see if I can find out.
Thanks for the offer. |
Vance,
I bolt my DAs at the same location and was able to find replacement bolts at the local hardware. I may even have extras. John |
John - Do you remember what size they were? The guy at the bolt store said it was a 9mm? He must have been measuring inside the threads? Did yours have a allen/hex head?

I just took my bolt and had it sized with one of their "screw in" displays. I think you might be better off to find a bolt with an allen head top in that location. I'd be a little concerned running that rollbar in anything more than an autocross. Looks like in a roll over even that mounting plate would shear. |
Ahhh....*all* cars use seat belt mounts that use a 7/16-20 UNF fine pitch bolt..not metric. Get Grade 5 at least ....Grade 8 might be better yet.
If that's the location you mean...that's the size you need....not the very similar looking 11 mm bolt that will cross-thread after about 4 turns. However...if you're talking about the area where the rear fold down seat pivots...as used by DAS bar as an additional mounting point...I believe these are 8mm but you hafta check...... Wil |
