Good weight distribution??

So I headed up to see a friend who also happens to own a commercial vehicle scale company, www.loadometer.com . So why not weigh the p-car... Here's what we got:

FL= 640 lbs. FR= 610 lbs. (40.5% weight up front)
RL= 945 lbs. RR= 890 lbs (59.5% weight up front)

Total weight= 3085 (included me, 190 lbs.)

I was in the drivers seat and the gas tank was full.

So are these numbers good? or should I get a corner balance done?

I had my car corner balanced earlier this year. My car is set as follows:

88 Carrera Targa - Stock
1/2 Tank gas with 198 pound driver
LF: 527
RF: 559
LR: 865
RR: 872

Total weight w/o driver was 2670.

Both of these examples are outstanding. You'd have trouble getting them closer if you tried. Keep in mind that the scales must be level with each other to make these measurements accurate.

Should I be concerned with the left side being heavier?

I wouldn't change a thing. You are real close and as Andy pointed out, it may be impossible to get closer and theres really no value in trying... Your car is properly balanced.

Go here, your balance is nearly perfect.

http://vintagebus.com/cgi-bin/balance.cgi?name=&car=&notes=&LF=640&RF=610&LR=945&RR=890

You are 2 lbs per corner off

And thanks again to Thom F for putting up the page that I and so many others have used to check the corner balance.

Ever since I took the spare out I notice a little wobblyness on fast tight turns when less than 1/3 of a tank. It feels like the passenger side/right side front (where the spare used to be).

Is there a way to balance this without adding weight?

I was thinking about relocating the battery as it's driver side/left front located.

Ahh....the left side *shows* heavier because.....ahh...the left side *is* heavier ( non-Brit cars). Nothing to "correct".

As posted by me and Chuck Mooreland many times in our combined discussions on this topic....proper corner-weights using the "short-form" formula would be LF/LR = RF/RR

Let's see how it works here:

LF/LR= 0.6772

RF/RR= 0.6854

Very nice......

Wil

Achieving corner balance is not re-distributing original weight around in different locations within the car. Battery, driver, steering gear is all biased very naturally toward the left...so a slight left bias is natural.

Here's a factoid to bend your head....the combined weight of "any two" wheels ...will ALWAYS be the same no matter what you adjust ( example....LF+RF....LF+LR.....LR+RR.....RF+RR). Try it !

Wil
