Trying to remember the name...a kit car, designed for VW beetle chassis, based loosely on the 917...

It's the rare Lemans winning 917 Kurz on a VW chassis.

Isn't that a Lazer kit car built on a 914? EDIT -> looks like they were built on beetle pans

Here a link: (NOT an endorsement! )

While the intention is obviously to look like a 917, it's funny how close these things look the Lola T600 that Brian Redmond used to race -- not a particularly pretty car either.

But these things are the perfect car for someone who wants the looks of something vaguely similar to a 917, but without all the extra complexity and consumption of the 8 extra cylinders and 75% of the capacity!

Back in 73 (i am OLD!) we were at Riverside to watch some races. In comes a GULF 917 driven on the street! "But wait a minute- that car is all lumpy and un proportioned. Look at the pea shooter exhausts and listen to the tweedle- tweedle exhaust note. Oh mah gawd! its a LAZER 917." We started laughing so hard at this car, its driver just about tore our heads off. he was humilated everywhere he drove around the circuit's parking areas looking to show off for his Farah Fawcett look a like bimbette. He left the track quite early. Never saw that hideous creature again (the car and bimbette)

It looks like it was designed in crayon.

Looks like someone steped on it in the middle and bent it

I wonder if some of it got stuck to his shoe.

Very few of the Kit cars have aged gracefuly. They were pretty cool looking if you happened to be ten years old.
