Cool Wheel Width

I just acquired a set of Euromeister Turbo Twist 3 Piece 5 Spoke Wheels. They are 8x17's front (positive 28 Offset) and 9x17's rear (positive 15 Offset). I own a 1986 911 Carrera Coupe, Regular Width Body. The worn rubber which currently sits on the wheels is 225/45 on the front, with 8.9" section width and 8.7" tread width. The rears are 255/40's with 10.4" section width, 9.8" tread width. It doesn't seem like there were any width issues with the previous owner of these wheels/tires.

I am looking to potentially upgrade to 235/45's on the front (with 9.2" section width and 8.3" tread width) and on the rear, 265/40's with 10.5" section width and 9.3" tread width. From these numbers, when I compare to the original tires on the wheels, it looks like width shouldn't be too much of an issue, but wanted to ask the experienced masses (as I am a newcomer) whether you had any thoughts on this. I don't really want to roll out the wells if not needed.

Any thoughts?!

Thanks everyone...this is a great forum!

Anyone???

I'm fairly new to this forum and I suspect this subject has been discussed at length. I'm just looking for some input as to whether I should go any larger than 225's on the front and whether 265's will actually fit in the rear.

Thanks again.

You'll get some responses, but since it's the Thanksgiving weekend things might be a little slow. If you are in a hurry for an answer do a search for biggest tires narrow car or something. This has come up lots and lots of times. From memory I think you are fine with what you are wanting to go with. I think you could actually go even bigger, but don't quote me on that.

I've got 235/45-17 on a 7.5" wheel and 255/40-17 on a 9" wheel. The 235 is a bit big for the 7.5 so it would be fine an 8" wheel, but I wouldn't go any bigger than 255 on a 9".

The search function is your friend. There are many wheel size threads already archived, including this one, where a link to Bill Verburg's wheel fitment page is given in one of the responses. The short answer is yes, they will fit, but you will likely have to roll the lips and possibly have some inside clearance problems with oil lines/spring plate bolts.
