Aircon "Final Solution" for an '87?
I am running my Targa in one of the world's hottest locations and would appreciate anyone's thoughts as to present wisdom in upgrading the aircon. At present the car cannot be a daily driver for the sole reason that the driver would collapse over the wheel after about ten minutes....
A search here reveals an extensive history but if anyone could tell me of a recent project which seems to work I would be in your debt. A list of parts and suppliers would be nice. |

Freshen everything up so it's in as new shape, add an underbody condenser, and I think you should be OK. The important part is to make sure that everything is working as it should be. I daily drove my '88 here in Houston the summer a few years back where we had sustained 100+ temps and high humidity, and with everything working as it should it was OK but not great. I think the important thing is to get the extra condenser area. Jack Olsen has got one. I think the shop where you can get one is Performance Aire.
You are lucky that you have an '87 an not an earlier car since the '87 has the updated dash vents. I found the most valuable vent was the far left vent in the dash. The center wouldn't angle far enough over to get to me. Also, close the two passenger side vents assuming you're the only one in the car. That makes a huge difference.
