undercoating?
i have a 1970 911t 2.2. the body had some rust when i bought it. im now stripping the front quarter panels, inside and out. the underside had undercoating on it, should it be there or was it put on by the previous owner?this car was abussed and left for dead when i got ahold of it or more like stuck with it. it has become my learning tool i now know better. im gonna strip it all and repaint and am not sure what part of the car should have undercoating on it if any. by the way the ouside front of the tub was covered with this undercoating as well. i have since removed it to search for rust. any info on this would help. thanks

Yes there was factory applied undercoating - I've got a brochure for the 1970 911 series and one of the photos shows the production line with 3 or 4 technicians brushing on thick layers of the black tar stuff. I think the caption even highlights that 35-40 lbs were used!

They used a lot of it, notice there are no inner fenders, the undercoating is the only thing that keep the stones from denting the fenders from the inside out. Wurth makes a stoneguard product that sprays on with a special gun to get the pebble type finish and I think it matches the orginal very well, atleast on my 69
