New Porsche--new to me at least

I own a very nice 1980 Porsche 911 SC Targa which is basically stock and only a good day driver. I was talking to a fellow attorney yesterday and he mentioned that he had just bought a superbike and wanted to sell his 1984 Porsche 928S. Well------I looked it over, drove the living crap out of it and bought it. It is Guards Red, has 132,000 substantiated miles, AC works and was converted to 134, has a great sound system, leather is dry and has cracks but is servicable, sunroof works great, dash is great with one crack in the pod. It has the polished wheels, new front spoiler, good paint (shines up real nice) just a few rubbed places on the door and rocker panels, new stainless steel exhaust, great carpets, fair tires, but it is a 4 speed auto. This Auto does not thrill me but my wife liked it a lot and it will be hers. She loved the rumble of the exhaust. There is some to do to make it a great car---window has a rattle, squeaks in the dash area and I think it might need some shocks. The best part is I paid less than $5,000 for a car that I know the history. The seller said the belts were replaced about 20,000 miles ago but I think it will go in for that service immediately.

Another toy to play with. Today, I have deemed the afternoon a legal holiday for me at my firm and will be home detailing, licensing, and inspecting the car. Wife is very excited to get the car. So---I have the 80 Targa, the 84 928 S, a very nice 1994 Camaro Z car, and a 2002 Jeep Liberty and neighbors who might report me as running a used car lot, especially when they hear the rumble of the V8 as it leaves the drive

Talk to the 928 group. IIRC the auto is a Mercedes unit that insists on starting out, from a stop, in 2nd (not 1st). There's, apparently, a simple modification that will allow the trans to start out in 1st (probably make it seem much livelier).

BTW, if I could have found a nice enough one for sale a few years ago, I'd have bought it (also with my wife in mind). Truly a high speed autobahn cruiser. Now, she's in love with her AWD Volvo.

I used to drive an '87 mercedes 560SL and always wondered why the crap it did that. I had to manually put it in first, learning new things daily.

Looking good Mel, but the 911 would look even better if you lowered it about 2 inches.

Nice looking 928. I like those a lot. The ones I do not like are those with the pop up headlights...
so, i guess 84 on are the years I'd be looking at.
84 has around 260 HP doesn't it?

They all had pop-up headlights.

Great chioce, Mel. I had an '86 5 spd and loved it. It kind of bled me to death, so, sadly, I sold it after 2 years and went back to the 911 world. Not unreliable, just a rash of expensive fixes.

I will have one in the garage again (a GTS would be really nice)...

My much missed '86 S:
