BMW question sorry, need fast response

Hi, Yellow light just went on in my mother in laws Z3 (97). It looks like a side view of a motor with a fan. Anyone know what this can be? Sorry, the z3 board is really slow for responses.

Thanks,

David

Engine light is usually red....perhaps coolant level? Does she have the owners manual?

What does the owners manual say it is? There should be a sheet with a key to all the lights meaning.

'97 Z3s are known for sensor floats absorbing water and giving false low coolant reading. Also the radiator cap and thermostat were redesigned because of problems.

Check Engine Light...

Hi, I did check the owner's manual and could not find it. there is everyother indicator on it but not that one. They did recently have a radiator problem fixed. A bad hose that caused the car to over heat.

I checked the oil and the transmission fluid which both seem fine. I will check the coolant in the morning when it cools off.

Thanks for all your help,

David

That's pretty funny that other car owners have to come to the Porsche forum for answers. I feel really priveleged to be a part of such a knowledgeable and helpful bunch!

Usually yellow lights are caution, (DUH!) I'm a BMW tech and I believe that is your low coolant light. Check your coolant resevoir level. Doesn't take much change in the level to turn it on. If it is low you need to find out where the coolant went.

Thanks everyone. Oh, the BMW is my mother in laws. I was trying to demonstrate the power of the Pelican site. Unfortunately, the z3 site on Pelican is very slow. I thought show her the resources availible before I fly back to Boston, the 911 board would be much quicker. I think the Z3 board would have made her question if this web stuff really works. Case in point, I just went over to the origianal post on the z3 board and still have no responses. Makes me appreciate owing a 911 and having this great site as a resource. Thanks to everyone.

David
