targa owners---sealing help

My targa top seals great all around except in the front. I get a lot of wind noise and its loud. Any suggestions as to what I can put on the frame or top, like a thich foam or? to stop the air flow. Thanks again.

Yeah, I get a lot of wind noise from the upper right side of the windshield.
I do have a leak though on the side window at the back near the targa bar. Maybe that has something to do with it. I'll have to adjust my window again soon to close the gap. Ughh.

My front seat had lost some of its spring and teken a set. I put some latex surgical tubing under the lip of the seal. Now the lip sits up higher and seals much better. did the same thing on the rear seal.

you can also sort of bend down the leading edge of the top so it engages the seal better, and isn't up in the wind.

if your entire frame is sitting too high in the front, I think you can remove the latches and re-install them with washers underneth. before doing this, make sure the pins at the corners are indeed not seated all the way down. if they are, and you do shim that latches, something will break. I see you have a 86, think those use different latches than mine, so...

also make sure your top is under the hooks, and is tight. if not, then its a loosing battle ending with rebuilding the skin canvas inside.

weather stripping on either the seal of the inside of the top will likely do the trick, but doesn't really solve the problem, in fact it will make the edge of the top stick up more, and may actually increase wind noise, while stopping air leak.

hope this helps,
jason

The wind noise is because the top is wearing out. It is stretching and letting the front come up. Be carefull with what you do to it. They can blow off even when latched correctly because the webbing is stretching and it folds up. A top that blows off will probably get ruined or cost thousands to repair. It happens all the time, this is no joke, thousands !!!! See this thread and make a wise investment.

The foam use is polyurethane and will take a set over time. Many airlines and rail lines are looking at silicone foam as a substitute - upside: feels like polyurethane, doesn't take a set and is fire proof. Downside: it is about 3 to 5 times more expensive and is a little bit denser. Seals using silicone foam are your best bet - they are most resistant to a set.
