Aftermarket seats moving from 85->72??

I'm looking at a set of Corbeau TSR seats and brackets that are currently mounted in a 85. How much difference or difficulty to install these in my 72?

Quick answers are appreciated since he is out of state and is looking to post these on Ebay if no one bites here. I currently have some old BMW seats in there that have seen better days.

I put MOMO's in my 77, and retained the stock slider by using 4 peices of 1/4 X 1" steel, and making a square. two peices mounted to stock sliders, the other to mount to the new seats, then mounted the steel peices to each other.... It was simple enough. Not sure if this helps you any........ and I was looking at that set of seats they are a nice set of seats, and good price. I'd go for them if My wife wouldn't kill me.
Good luck

I just mounted oem 85 seats into a 73. the 85 sliders are narrower than the early sliders left to right, and don't span as far front to back. bought some 1/8" x 2" steel cut to 19" long at the local good hardware store. (you could go narrower than 2" but i errored on the wide side) I drilled holes to match the original sliders to bolt into the car, and holes for the new seats about 1/2"? inboard. add spray paint for looks, and some nuts and bolts for the new seats, $20 bucks total. Its easy, just need a power drill, tape measure, and thinking.

here is the best pic I could take of my adapter plates, being installed it makes it hard. should remember to take pics of these types of things before installing....

Some quicky measurements-double check on your car/seat combo!

I made my brackets out of 1/8 x 2 1/2" wide steel. 2" wide will work just fine.

I had it cut to 19" long, as that will span from front to back on the early seat slider mounting pattern.

the early seat slider width is ABOUT 18" (just measured roughly with a tape mesure just now)

the late seat slider width is ABOUT 16 1/8"

I put the front bolt of the late sliders about 4" behind the front bolt of the early sliders. this was just based on where i wanted to "center" the fore aft adjustment on the new seats.

All the screws are M6 x 1.0 thread

First i very carefully measured the early seat mount pattern and dilled that into the steel. I then mounted that into the car. Then rested the new seats on top of the steel brackets, messed around and figured out how i wanted it aligned. With the seat slide all the way back, i marked the location of the front mode bolt for the new seats on the outside. removed seat, drilled than one hole. put seat back in, inserted and tighted that bolt with a nut on the other side. double check everything was ok, then marked the inside front bolt, drilled that one. bolted iit in. double checked everything was still good. slide the seat all the way forward, then I unbolted the adapters from the chassis (till bolted tight to the seat). Then marked and drilled the rear holes, inserted and tightened those. seats back in car for one last check that everything fit. Then removed seats again, and removed adapters, now use those as a templete to make the passenger seat. prime, paint, reinstalled , and you are done.

or you could just buy this:
http://www.************************/ProductPage.aspx?ProductName=Seat+Adapter+Kit&productid=105575&producttype=20

which is exactly what i made with the fore/aft center position a little different for $55 less, with 3 hours more work, and more pride in result.

if you have a drill and a hacksaw you can make them your self in a few hours for less than $20 each. Angle iron from Lowes is cheap. Here's how I did mine. I was actually able to drop the overall seat height by about 2" with these

Fitting later seats to pre-74s has been beaten to death on this board. The button is your friend.

Sorry for the grumpiness but thanks for the bandwidth.

First, thanks for Jason's and Sherman's detailed responses along with all others. Second, really have you ever did a search with the wrong key words? I mean, really Harry, do you think I've never used the "search" button! BUT if you don't use the right combo you get either nothing or a bunch of something that may not be applicable.

On the bandwidth issue....your taking it up complaining and "I" definitely have helped Wayne pay for this bandwidth as recently as just two days ago. So, not much shame here. Wayne's business model works and he sells parts to me, therefore I continue to use and share on this BBS. Now, who's being grumpy

Anyway, Tim wants an answer so this helped two Pelican's with one bandwidth use.

As long as I am "wasting" bandwidth, a search with the terms (in quotes) "seat adapters" turns up 92 threads (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=964736&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending&perpage=25&pagenumber=1). In the first 20 or so threads, most if not all of the answers are present.

I have posted numerous times that I got mine from PEParts (www.peparts.com) and had them add an "ear" to permit mounting of my lap belts without drilling the tub or some other afterthought install.

BTW, I like Wayne's business model and I vote with my purchases as well. After all, fair prices, good advice, interesting discussion... what a great autoparts store!

Kum-Bah-Yah...

Harry:
No harm. I never tried "seat adapters", but have tried other phrases in past with so so results on this topic when looking at some OEM seats. I also didn't know how applicable they were going to be for this specific swap and they are a set that I'm serious about...and they aren't an insignificant outlay of cash. I also have no way of looking at a set out here in BFE to imagineer before purchasing.

Yes, I know that we continue to see the same threads all the time, and thanks for the "seat adapter" lead. I had tried longer phrases and never used "adapter" in any of them.

No real harm... no foul...

Anyway, as you onder your option to attahch your seats be sure to consider how to attach seat bealt. The early seats had the attachments on the seat itself. Later seats were anchored to the floor.

You can see how I attached my belts here:
