72T 2.4 911 MFI:What was the stock color for the engine compartment?

Does anyone know the stock color for the engine compartment on a 1972 2.4 911T. The exterior of my car is albert blue.

I'm interest in detailing the engine compartment and want it to be stock...

Thanks,
Ian

Both of my 1972 911 T's have black engine bay. I believe both are original still.

Hayden

the engine compartment of this 72T targa I looked at was painted orange to match the car body, you can see some of the original paint colour under the dirt. the car was imported from Germanyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1101514092.gif

Ian,

The cars seem to have body color under the black, not sure how well the color is laid down, but where the black is worn thin over the nibs of the undersealer, the body color shows through.

Regards

Hayden

There's a shot of PWD72S's engine compartment in
this thread. Probably the most stock 72S left in the world.

Mine is the color of my car with a black coating over it.

Ian? Since you and Harry both live in "Moscow by the Willamette"? Maybe you should get together?

Paul,

OK... OK... I'll leave you alone. But before I go, I saw Jeff G today and he was quite impressed with your little time capsule. Hopefully I'll see you up here at one of the events.

Harry, my little time capsule is a LOT of driving fun since Jeff had her in his care. Hope to bump into you again sometime...Paul

Oooo question to pwd72S : I was reading the other thread posted up earlier... Is this true??!!! :

"To get a replacement VIN decal, you need to go to a dealership, proof of ownership in hand"

CAN ONE OBTAIN AN EXACT DUPLICATE VIN STICKER FOR THE LEFT DOOR JAM??!!

WOW THAT WOULD BE GREAT!
Thanks

In 72 Porsche painted the engine compartment black over the body color. Not sure what year this little extra was discontinued.

I'm in the process of restoring a 72T (Sepia Brown) and began doing the engine compartment today. Of course I had to get rid of the engine and tranny and all that stuff in the way.

I'm amazed that quality of components significantly exceeds my 87.

As far as I know, that's still true...all the stickers required by USA laws are available as replacements through an authorized dealership. To stay on topic...in '72 both the engine surround and the car's bottom were black. The switch to body color was made in '73...

While we are on the subject....What about the front trunk color of a '76?

I'm in the process of removing the gas tank and I'm going to detail the front trunk back to the original silver. Does the tank get the same color (silver) or is it black. (Looked in the archives for pix but couldn't find anything)

Jim
