Which oil return tuibes are best to use?
Expandable? Solid? Aluminum or steel? |

If the engine is already apart it is recommended to use the solid variety (less places for it to leak). Conversely, if the engine is still intact and you plan on keeping it intact, use the expandable tubes. My opinion is to use the aluminum variety - no rusting issues to contend with, plus, aethetically these aluminum ones match the rest of the lower engine better (yes, I am under my car a lot and I prefer the matching).
If you use the expandable tube use the 'hose clamp' method to install it greatly simplifies the installation procedure.

The link below is for the whole technical article on replacing oil return tubes. I would certainly recommend reading this in its entirety. The 'hose clamp' method is near the end - Bill Norwood's suggestion, and a very good suggestion at that, was added to Wayne's original article.
