What to do with my project '66
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. I just got my 911 project and am looking for advice. I bought the car as an unfinished project. The previous owner started the conversion from SWB to LWB. The rear quarter panels were (professionally) put on and a rebuilt 2.2l was installed. The PO lost interest after that so the actual wheelbase conversion was never done. What to do? Change the rear quarter panels back to SWB or finish the conversion to LWB (I read an older post about this and it did not get recommended). Thanks in advance |

If the quarter panels were done well and you are not dead set on restoring it to original, my inclination would be to complete the LWB conversion. The cost probably would be less than (properly) restoring the quarters, it will handle better and (to many if not all) look better. That said, it it were a complete, straight, original, rustfree car then resto would be the route.

Thanks for the help Phil. The car is complete and straight but with the 2.2 engine it will not be original so I'm leaning toward going with the LWB.
Do I have to replace the whole rear axle assembly? I already have the trail arms. I know I'll need spring plates, what else? Martijn |
This is a topic that occasionally comes up, typically with little support. It seems the process is fairly involved, and not for the faint of heart (or wallet!). I did a quick search (button in upper right hand corner of screen, just below the blue band, but right above the ad-banner) using the terms "SWB LWB conversion" and got back the following thread.
