915 upgrades

Surgery is necessary on my 915 trans. While in there replacing worn synchros...any experiences with gear changes for closer ratios, LSD, WEVO gate shifts or any other potentially expensive maneuvers? Oh yeah, this 1975 911S has a 3.6L varioram with lghtwgt flywheel-centerforce clutch...plenty of torque already! Thanks for your inputs. NKG

one thing you should do is update the 3 arm hubs to the later style which are beefier. (that 3.6 could break one of the wimpy arms off). requires the later shift sleeves to match. then 1st syncro teeth need to be changed to the later assymetrical style to match the new shift sleeve, along with the later 1st brake band. 2nd gear should also get the later brake band. with the early 7:31 diff, (if you have it), the ratios should already be pretty close. a 0.72 5th would keep the Rs down on the freeway and save gas, if you care.

I recently had the same opportunity, and I decided to do the ZF LSD, wevo gate shift, wevo shifter, and new shift joint. All in at about 6K including rebuild.

This is on a track only car and the difference is incredible. If yours is a street car, I'd skip the wevo stuff. Since you hace a 3.6 in it the LSD may still be a good idea, if for no other reason than to save a little rear rubber.

I wanted to add a cooler, but ran out of $.

On a similar note, I thought the mag trannies were not recommended for 3.6 conversions. My '72 mag tranny is supposed to be the weakest. It will be replaced.
