Low Cost Winch
Wall Mart sells an extremely low cost (cheap) winch in their automotive dept. This winch is good for ocaisional use at track events if you need to put a non running P-car on a trailer.
It is very slow but it works, and it is way easier than using a come-along. JoeF |

A non-running P-car? Bite your tongue! Lets dispense with the negative waves and think positive thoughts about perfect apexes and mechanical reliability. Heck. We don't need no stinkin' trailers!
(Sorry, I must take my meds now.) Les

Low cost winch. Oxymoron. OK, sorry, that's wench.
![]() I have one of the hand crank winches from Harbor Frieght. Handy to have around sometimes. If you can re-rig it with 1/4" braided cable, you cna get a lot more line on the spool and pull more weight. I don't know about Wal Mart's, is it rope or steel? |

Zeke,
It comes with steel cable. This winch is intended for emergency use only. The owners manual says the winch capacity is 2000 pounds. This means that on level ground, it can pull a 2000 lb. weight into motion from a dead stop. Also on level ground it can keep a wheeled vehicle up to 6000 lbs. in motion. At a 45-degree incline, the load capacity drops to 1100 lbs (rolling). It will pull 2500 lbs. (rolling) up a 10-degree ramp. I used it to pull a very heavy stock 930 up ramps onto my trailer, it worked OK. A lightend up SC will be no problem. I wouldnt let any body stand behind the car being loaded, and someone in the car ready to apply brakes isnt a bad idea either. JoeF |

Tim,
Thats what it said in the owners manual. The book makes a distinction between the 2000 lb. weight and a 6000 lb. rolling weight, so I guess the 2000 lbs. they refer to is wheel-less. As I said, it put the 930 on the trailer. It was very slow, but it did it. I dont think I would want to use this winch on anything that weighed much more than the 930. JoeF |
