				jack stand locations

Where are the correct places to place some jack stands, front and rear, to get the 86 911 up for some look-ats and some work. Its a widebody so not much room. Thanks for your reply

I can't answer for the front, but for the rear, place the stands here... NOTE You may want to place some cardboard or something between the stand and the car to prevent removing the protective coating. Randy

The front most torsion bar mount is perfect for jack stands. Be careful when jacking up the car high enough to get stands on the front and rear. It can be a little unstable when one side is on jack and the other is on the ground. Sorry, no pics.

Is it save to put a 911SC 78 on 4 jack stands, is this stable like for a gearbox oil change? What is the best way to jack it up, first on the rear then on the front, can you jack up the whole front in once, or must you jack up first the right and then the left side, to jack up the back in once no problem. These are reasonable or you can try these for overkill . I am going to go for overkill myself, but the choice is yours.

Thanks for the hints. But my problem is I've got a very low front air dam and cant get a jack under it. Only from the front of the wheel can I get it under the car, and cant get it to the front of the torsion bars, only the back of them. Now what?

Another place for the front is behind the wheels where the floor pan turns up. Also, I forgot what year, but at some point Porsche put a flat plate in that location for the express purpose of placing a stand. Randy Webb posted this picture showing the location: . I usually put mine right at the curve.

The same thread with my original pic has a pic by Bill Verberg showing a buffer from JC Whitney witha cutout for the metal lip. They are cheap. Or you could make one out of a block of wood.

If you can't get a jack underneath because of ride height or spoilers, grab a couple of short(2 - 3 ft.) lengths of 2x6 and bevel the ends. Then use these as ramps on your garage floor to raise the car enough to get the jack in so you can then get the car onto the stands. Note: remember to put your ramps back under the tires before you lower the car. (Don't ask me why this comes to mind) Les

I also sometimes use the factory jack to raise the front of my car just enough so I can get a jack under the front center of the car to raise the entire front. I usually place a long piece of wood on the cross bar just behind the front A/C condensor in front of the fuel tank and lift from there. THen stick jack stands under the front torsion bar covers.
