Installing left side cam seal: should it be flush with cam housing or recessed?
 

I'm replacing the left front cam seal that drives the MFI pump.

Should this seal be flush with the edge of the cam housing or should it be pushed in further so it is recessed a few mm?

Any other things I know should know for a leak free installation?

It should be flush unless there is a clearance problem with the belt drive pulley. Also put a little oil on the ID and OD of the seal so that it won’t tear.

I'd like to hear other opinions on this but my experience is that it's more important that the seal is in the bore correctly, i.e. not
twisted or sitting unevenly. If the seal is properly oriented, I'm not sure it matters that much if it's flush with the cam housing or slightly offset. I've even place 2 seals in the bore to cure a really tricky leak but I'm sure that's not the ideal way to go....
