915 output axles
I'm not really sure what they are called, axles, flanges, shoes, etc. They are the part where the cv joints bolt up to. One of the threads in it are stripped bad. What should i do, repair the threads with a timecert, take it to a machine shop, or find a used one to replace it.

I would just replace it. These are easy to find used and inexpensive. On the other side, a TimeSert or Helicoil is a perfectly suitable repair.
Carefully measure everything so you get the right part. Where applicable, always use new Schnorr locking washers. ALLWAYS re-torque CV bolts after they have been driven. Best, Grady |
What are schnorr locking washers?

Ok, well i called around and the only place i found with the output flange wants 100 bucks for it. Considering that i have a helicoil kit for m8 x 1.25 in my tool box and this is the last thing i'm waiting to finish now before i put the tranny/motor back in my car, should i just helicoil it. I figure all the really heavy loads that those bolts are subjected to are shearing stress, so as long as the helicoils can hold to the 30 lbs of torque it should be ok. But i figured i'd ask anyhow incase someone has a negative point to add against a helicoil repair.

do you have a 915, if so is it fine splined or course splined, and what year is your car, do you still need the green gaskets?
I have 915 axles coming out my ears, so let me know and I will see I have one for you. Jim |
