930 switch "nob" question???

Hello!!!!!!!
A friend of mine, is looking in to buying a 78 930. It has 34k miles on it, and the engine has been pulled twice "humm". Anyway onece we looked inside, above the center console, there was this nob. The sales guy said that the switch was to adjust the wastegate. He also mention that it was disable now "humm". Is this standard, aftermaket, or smoke up our A$$. Second inside the center console where the Casettes normally go, there is a Bosst Guage "humm". Pretty strange beacuse you can't barely see it from thr driver side. The one in the Tac still operational.
Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would ask him to try and get ahold of the previous owner if you can and get a definitive answer on the mods. Or else I would probably pass on this one and find a different car if there is no history or records on this car.

Just my thoughts and what I would do.

Yes, that knob will control the amount of boost being present. It's really just a glorified regulator that controls the signal pressure to the wastegate. Some call it the "dial-o-death." As John states, its easy to adjust too much and then engine goes boom. Definitely not a standard option. Thats probably the worst place I've seen for a boost gauge. Better place is in the clock hole. The one in the tach is ok, not the most accurate though.

Having that knob within reach is the reason the engine has been dropped
twice.
As someone who has their adj. boost within reach, I can say from experience it's not a good thing.
