Autoweek says Hardtop Boxster "GTS" coming

This weeks autoweek says there will be a slightly higher output, lt. wt. version of the hardtop boxster in 06. And Porsche may go racing with it. Sounds like a neat car. They did not guess at the price but it will prolly be $60K :-((.

Guess I will have to wait till the Lotus elies' are availble on the used market to find anything I want and can afford.

I am going to be able to attend the No. Am Auto Show in Detroit, maybe they will have one on display. Anybody else going?

I am really excited always wanted to go.

Car News briefs: Porsche considering Clubsport Boxster coupe; selling Saleen

AUTOWEEK
Posted Date: 12/1/04

Boxster coupe coup

The coupe version of Porsche’s entry-level Boxster roadster is set for launch next year as the Boxster GTS,_but the German automaker is already considering a lightweight Clubsport version of the fixed-roof sports car. Tentatively planned for 2006, the stripped two-door Boxster GTS Clubsport (sans air conditioning, audio system and sound deadening) may serve as the basis for an extension of Porsche’s motorsport activities, say sources in Zuffenhausen.

Other changes include a more free-flowing exhaust to sharpen throttle response, a higher redline, and a lower final-drive ratio for improved off-the-line acceleration. Suspension changes have already netted lateral acceleration figures of up to 1.2 g, says our Porsche source

This is what I am talking about!!!

This could be even better than a GT3.

I have been waiting for a while for them to do this.

Back to the roots!

For 60k, it would almost be better to pay an extra 10k and get a 911.

I would buy one if they had the Supercup like series here in the US, but for the GTS coupe Boxsters. How fun would that be! Damn- Talked to Fiancé into saving for a 997...... I now have to work the "Less is more" angle

I've mentioned this before....

The coupe may become the "poor"-man's-911... especially the ClubSport version. The car of choice will be a used one, while looking around for that "drop-in" donor motor from a Carrera S wrecked by some idiot. THAT should be a great combination!

The way RUF and others are putting in the 996 engines into Boxsters, they will probably be compatible in the same manner in the new models.

$70K will only get you a very base, 911 coupe.

I doubt it. They are going back to their roots. The Boxster coupe would not be a 914 if thats what your getting at.

Correct if you are going with brand new but a few years old and you can get something really nice but it is all up to the individual or you can get 3 or 4 good older 911s and maybe build a track car also for that amount of money.

By "going back to their roots" you mean, an affordable performance-oriented vehicle? W/o nav, surround sound, etc.? That's exactly what I'm thinking. (Obvioudly "affordable" in today's terms is quite different than the 914's price when it came out.)

I don't think it will become the 914. It's gonna be higher/better than that. They sold plenty of Boxsters to people who couldn't get the 911 b/c of the price. Since this car will be in the Boxster's price range, as a coupe, it will make a bunch of the M3 crowd take a look at it and make them consider the performance aspect.

People w/ ~$50K for an M3, may not be in the market for an $80K 911, but they will look at a Boxster coupe (esp w/ the 911-ish shape). It will be like the "T" when compared to the 997's "S".

Seems to make more sense to buy an old boxster, strip it and finance alot of the upgrades by selling what came off. Bet you could make an awsome car for much less.

If you can, go during the daytime during the week - otherwise you'll be 4-5 people deep at just about every display ... you won't see (or at least get close to) much.

Weeknights aren't too bad, but they can get crowded. Weekends are a zoo.

Park in a Greektown structure and take a shuttle bus or the People Mover if you want to do something before/after the show.

We should start a separate thread once the show gets closer ... maybe we can all meet up.

yeah, but a Boxster looks like a.... Boxster

The coupe will have that sloping shape we know so well

A while ago I was considering what it would be like to have a stripped out Boxster:
any mean Boxsters out there?

it's huge, go early, pack a lunch, make sure you go on a weekday...you'll walk your butt off.

water inside is 3 bucks...you should be able to take a backpack with you with water in it. (did that for SEMA...it was the best move ever)
