pin hole chips in windsheild

On my 72T Targa, the windshield has a million pin point chips. You don't notice them until the sun goes down and you are looking into oncoming headlights. Hard to see them, but you can feel them with your fingernail. This in not from wax peeling off the shield like the old RainX use to do.

Can this windshield be saved or should I start looking for a new one?

How hard is it to get a new shield that fits on the aftermarket?

I never liked the idea of a used, probably brittle shield. PPG has a lot of fans because they say it doesn't chip or crack as fast as Sigla. A good shopper gets a good PPG price.

Ronin,
I'm more concerned with the installation and fit of an aftermarket shield on P-car targas.
I have never had a problem with this on my other cars but wonder if due to the small targa market, if these shields will fit properly.
Also, will the gasket have to be replaced? Will the installer have them, or should i order one just in case?
Terry

PPG has a lot of fans on this BBS.

You definately need a new gasket from pelican. I also suggest doing the job yourself with some help from a friend.

"101 Projects for your Porsche 911" has a section on glass and do a search for plenty of install info. You'll also want time after removal to check and repair any rust issues in the track. KTL posted a nice routine for shaping the moldings before install.

a routine shop install is a 50/50 shot at a pia prob.
