rear view mirror

I got a new windshield installed in my1983 911 SC and I am having trouble installing the mirror, I feel like I'm using to much force so I quit in fear of breaking off the mirroe holder. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance for all your help

Is the force you speak of re removing the holder from the mirror itself or?

I had much trouble removing the metal piece that attaches to the windshield from the brackett on the mirror.
So the last time I just left it as one piece and attached that way, do a few practices prior to attaching & applying glue so you get it straight and it will slide around for the first 20 seconds or so. So be steady.

mirror

My 83 SC had a very giggly mirror when purchased. This made it harder to pick out CHP.

I bought a new mount for the mirror from our host and epoxied it on the window. The dovetail mount was very tight so I opened it up a little for a longer engagement before gluing it on the window.

I could have just removed the old mount by twisting and then bent it to work better.

Don't press on the window. Try to press on the mirror and the mount.

Hope this helps.

If you have the mount on the windshield and are just trying to attach the mirror, spray a little WD40 on the mirror and just work it on with a little side to side movement.
I guessing all the parts are the same ?

I just did this after buying a new mirror and it was a bit tight but the WD 40 did the trick.

I took my inside mirror off completely. I use the outside mirrors. It makes the viewing area so much nicer, you won't believe the difference. Try it.....

I can see what you are saying, but the way the mirrors should be adjusted they don't overlap enough to do without one. I couldn't live on public streets without any of my mirrors. I found this info somewhere about a 2 years ago, and could never go back to the old way of adjusting.

To adjust the side-view mirrors properly, one moves slightly to the left and right of normal driving position, and adjusts the mirrors to just view the side of the vehicle. This can be accomplished by placing your head on the driver's window while adjusting the left side mirror, and by sitting in the center of the vehicle while adjusting the right side mirror.
