weight questions?
Anyone know the differences in weight on these systems?
CIS induction compared to the Motronic 3.2 induction? 930 brakes compared to SC brakes? |

3.2L Induction manifold, FI system, air box & filter, all hoses and cables 44.2 lbs.
the above are accurate. somebody reported 30 lbs for the CIS 'intake' on a 3L. Hard to say what that really means. Bill Verburg will have other brake info. Here's some: 6.0 Caliper, "S" type, Al, Calzia 7.0 Caliper, "M" type, steel Calzia 7.0 Caliper, 944T, Front w/Al adaptor for S strut, no pads Calzia 6.0 Caliper, 944T, Rear, no pads Calzia 9.5 Caliper, Carrera, Front w/o pads, pins, retainer spring or fluid - weighed on kitchen scale 8.0 Caliper, Carrera, Front w/o pads, pins, retainer spring or fluid - weighed on kitchen scale 7.8 Brake Caliper, R. w/ attached metal line and pads - original on red car 5.2 or so for Wilwood Superlite 6 Front caliper 9.0 to 10 lbs for Wilwood Ultralight Curved 32 Fin Rotor 11.0 Rotor, Iron Front w/o Al hat 15.0 Rotor, Iron Front w/ Al hat and hardware 13.0 Rotor, Iron Rear w/ parking brake drum 18.5 Rotor, F. 930 w/pads ?? Incl. Caliper? - some guy posted this 7.0 Rotor, Front 12x1.25" Al composite Cool Rotor w/ hat (no hardware) 11.0 Rotor, Front 12x1.25" Al composite Cool Rotor w/ hat, SmartProducts blockoff plate and hardware 6.8 Rotor, Rear 12x1.1" Al composite Cool Rotor w/ parking brake drum

Thanks Randy. 11.5 per wheel from SC to a 930 Set up. 46# total?! Steep price for better brakes.
Induction seem about right from what I have seen today. 14# difference? |

I didn't weight the brakes myself so I can't vouch for their accuracy. BV will no doubt have all things brakes...
See Thom's web page for my Excel spreadsheet on wt. info that you can download. Someday we will be able to buy ceramic brakes for our cars....

Actually thinking about pulling my 930 brakes to lighten the load.

Weighted some of my own stuff today.
New front , solid SC, rotor only, 11.3# each New front, drilled 930, rotor only, 14.9# each Makes all 4 930 rotors alone worth 14.4# in weight gain. Calipers have to be close in weight I suspect comparing smaller steel to larger aluminum. Makes the 930 brakes worth keeping just for the ease of changing pads IMO. No question they add to the security and performance of the car in many but not all circumstances. They are overkill for a street car but for a 14# penalty I can live with it Quote:

Sorry rotors only...I edited to reflect that. Weighed on a calibrated postal scale.

intake manifold
Dane,
I sent you a PM. I am building a Motec M4 system . I know just enough to be dangerus. I just bought a plastic varioram manifold. It is on its way but it seems light. |

Hi Colin,
Had some questions for you on your email. Just haven't had the time to get back to it. Couple of guys tell me the Vario rams are heavier than the Motronic. Never played with one. Sounds like you'll have a beast either way. Randy, yes those are the numbers off the front rotors on both the SC and 930. |

What about no starter? Haha, go F1 style, cut an access hole in the case, roll your starter up to the car and crank it over! Or not, silly idea oh well.
rdane, if you get rid of those 930's im sure my dad would like to take em off your hands.
