RoninLB has it right. You need to take the aluminum trim and FROM it around the GLASS (without the rubber).
Now put the rubber on the glass, put the aluminum trim in the rubber, not use a soapy NYLON rope to pull the rubber lip into the car’s windshield frame… It should fit like factory (no DUM DUM)… mine did. |
that would work fine if my glass was bigger. i think the only thing here is i have a later model glass. if i put the glass in to seal without trim and sit it in to frame i have about 3/4 inch space in top corners now i think my best option is to find out what model year seal i need to get in order to make this work. i could care less about the trim.

Alright then. That seems strange. Do you mean later model glass like 964 or 993?
As I recall the glass dimensions are the same from '74 - 89. |
i think 964? " to me there all 911 till they started puting water in them" best i understand is you can use 964 glass as long as you use trimless seal. so what yesr is the 964 series. i am just trying to figure out what gasket to order.

I just replaced all the glass after a bare metal repaint. The trim is installed into the gasket before installing on the windshield. Tape the trim with duct tape every few inches to keep it from popping out of the channel. I rebent the trim to fit the approximate shape of the windshield before installing it in the channel. Once the glass is in the opening, and positioned appropriately, the trim can be slightly deformed to ensure a tighter seal with a block and light hammer taps.( I used a scrap of malleable, dense hard rubber as the block). All the glass took about 5 hours to install. Not counting the first try to install the windshield when my 16 year old son became overly exhuberant and pushed so hard he cracked the original windshield.. ahhh youthful enthusiasm. I was
dissuaded from trying the install initially because of all the horror stories, but it wasn't that tough once I suckerede up the guts to try. |
I believe the factory manual talks about the trim AND window changing during last year ( 1989) of Carrera production. If this is correct...it means that late 3.2 production uses a different window/trim than other 3.2'. It's then likely that this changed window is used on the 89-90+ 964's...
