Wet carpet!
Well guys, I ripped up the carpet today. It was soaking wet. The good news is I didn't see any obvious rust. I know that doesn't mean it isn't there, though. Water was actually pooled on the carpet behind the driver's seat and under the pedals. Chris thinks the leaks are coming from a crappy seal job when the car was repainted. And yes, the original color was brown! Any temporary ideas 'til I get the funds to have the windows resealed??? Ps - I also posted on gruppeb...

the only propoer fix is to pull the front and rear window and have the seals replaced. If you leave it you will get rust
ask me how I know. Michael |

Just don't drive it in the rain.
Getting a window resealed wil not set you back much money anyhow. You might even be able to make it claim free on your insurance, most in Australia allow free winscreens.

You want to make sure you confirm where the water is coming from. Get in the car and have someone spray it down with a hose. The sunroof may be the problem or the side windows could be too. Installing new seals is a pain in the butt, but if you do it yourself, you can do it for the price of the seal.
There is no quick fixes. Do yourself a favor and don't silicone the heck out of the current seals, since you will have to scrape it all out later. George |

Australia sounds great right about now. Not only will I be driving in the rain, unfortunately, I have yet to secure a proper garage space for the winter. Please don't kill me, I know this may be heart-breaking to some. Do you trust the guys pulling the glass not to have an "accident?"

Check the windshield seal for leaks. Check also the fresh blower seal at the black grill on the hood. Check the fresh blower drain hose in the trunk and were it passes in front of the a/c condenser in the passenger side. Take some one that spray water to make the tests.

Good advice about the silicone. I was thinking duct tape. (not really) It doesn't seem to be coming from the sunroof. There is a bit of dripping on the side doors and under the dash. I have heard this is fairly common. Would a car cover just make things worse by trapping in the moisture? Those car bubble things sure do look interesting.

I fthe leak is under your dash it could be the front screen seal or from under the bonnet where the ventilation system is.
If you are going to drive your car in winter get it fixed so you don't have rust issues. Michael |

I am chasing down a leak myself on my 69T.
The tip of using a water hose is GOOD! It helps put control over the flooding (yes, I am an engineer). First thing I found was the hood seal had gone bad (cracks...), letting water in right over over the air hoses, which are going through the wall and inside the car. The water had just to follow the path... The hood seal replaced...I still have a tiny leak, which I believe could be adjusted out (again the hood- it is not pressing well enough on the right side) (PS: My hood is a little bit warped, after some b@#@##d backed into it). After that, I will look into the windshield... Fred PS:On my end, I ended up getting 1 sq.ft cut off my floor...darn rust had started its nasty job...

If you have to use a car cover get a very good one, lined on the inside to protect your paint also. In windy areas a car cover moving back and forth ever so slightly will act just like a minature sander on areas where it fits snuggly against the body parts.

my tip is to remove the carpets until the leak is fixed. that way the car will dry out better and you can keep an eye on the water in the meantime - you will probably be able to work out where its leaking.
thats what i did - i had a leaky screen seal.

Yes, original Cali car. Stayed here all her life...in Northern California.
The PO did not run it for a while, and decided to sell. I guess it started rusting while seating.
