Lighted key head retrofit
Can a lighted key head be retrofited to older key styles. Or better yet is the new key able to be cut to an older key style. The key is for a '69 911. I'm tired of trying to find the key hole in the dark. No jokes please

I think so- at least it worked w/ my SC. Any locksmith will cut a copy- you just need to take in your old key & the new blank & presto- no more feeling around blindly for the slot.

You cannot take the metal key insert out of the black or red plastic "hoop" holders and use it in the lighted key heads - even if you cut them down with a dremel it would not fit.
If you mean something else maybe you can give some more info...

You could just get her drunk and leave the lights on...

I bought a modern blank....the lighted head....ground my old key head off and matched it to the blank.....worked great. Except the Fuch ing Porsche crest fell of off the new key head....

are you saying you added the U slot and the horn 'hook' onto it? Incredible amount of work if so.

I like the dremel idea. I have a couple extra keys to try it with. My key is not a hoop key it has an oval head. Also, I take it that a key blank that is made for the lighted key head can be cut to work in a '69 911. Meaning there isn't a fundamental difference between the new and old key shapes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, Sam

I took my '74 key down to the dealer and asked them to make me a lighted one to match. They did and it works swell. It was about the same price cut as the blanks on ebay.

Sammy, sounds like an excellent project as I have a 69 and a lighted key head, but no blank. Post plenty of pictures!
