964 A/C removal question
Hey everyone,
stupid question, but I was pulling the A/C compressor off of my '93 RSA, and ran into a stumbling block. The compressor came out fine, but I figured well, I might as well try to take the pedestal out as well since it's just sitting there getting in the way and adding some weight, but after removing both bolts holding it on it still wouldn't budge, plus the hole from the lower bolt started leaking oil, so I just put it back in. Anyone know the correct proceedure for removing the pedestal? Thanks, Andrew |
It's all part of the front engine mount.
It is so light, that it doesn't make any sense to remove it. In fact, the whole A/C system in the 964 and 993 is very light. The compressor is only 15#, the mounting is almost nothing, since it's thin-wall aluminum, and the lines are mostly aluminum tubing. The evaporator is integral with the whole HVAC box. I'd say it weighs about half what the older systems do. And it actually works! |
thanks, I'll just leave it then. I know the system is very light, but mine doesn't work, and this is a track car also, so all the weight i can get out of it, especially behind the rear axle is great. In addition to the RSA being lighter than a stock C2 I've managed to lose almost an additional 200lbs so far... so another 15 helps!
