Widening deep 6 fuchs
Has anyone here ever widened a set of deep 6 wheels? It seems to me that you could cut the inner lip off of a deep six and then weld on a wider portion of an inner lip from say a standard 6.
Would this be a bad idea? How wide can you make them before they start to rub on the rear inner wheel well, oil lines, or spring plate eccentrics. Are the 7" R wheels the max, or could a deep six be widened to 8"? edit: car is a non flared '72T street car. Just trying to fit max tire under the rear :) TIA |
pm Zeke- I think he was researching the same thing

Do some searching. All the details can be found in the archives of this site. Pics of finished wheels too.

I've had a number of 'deep sixes' widened to 7R spec :

ok, I searched Zekes old posts. I didnt find any details, only that he was planning on doing this.
Thanks Andy! How wide can you make them? Is there any more room inside the rear wheel well past 7" R width? |
With spacers you can widen as much as you want. There isn't even room for 7R wheels without spacers. Probably a minimum spacer of 10mm plus longer studs. Depends on who you talk to. Maybe shave bolt heads a couple mm if they rub. I'm working on fitting a set on my car right now. Just had them trued up by AWRS of Michigan.

I was going to have them done locally here in Ohio, but after talking with Weidman's I will just send them to him. If you have him restore the finish at the same time it is suprisingly inexpensive.

Thats good news. Ive been looking for an excuse to send Harvey some wheels :D. So does anyone know if they can be widened to 8" without shaving eccentric bolts or rubbing oil lines?
