Fuel Pump 911SC -- Aftermarket Replacements
Can anyone provide a link to specs (or the specs) for the fuel pump on my 1979 911SC, e.g., min psi, flow rate, etc. I want to research the possibility of buying an aftermarket replacement for the Bosch. Does anyone have any advice. Thank you, Duane Duclaux

How did you figure out it was the pump and not the fuel relay or other issue?

Tested the pump directly with 12v source. That test backfed the relay (its whistling indicated the relay was operational). Pulled the pump, hit it with 12v -- could feel a "bump" inside the pump -- it wanted to turn but couldn't. Confirmed the pump was bad when I disassembled it -- it had been sitting up for several years and old fuel seemed to have varnished one pin in the impeller frozen.

i've never heard of an aftermarket, non-bosch pump.

Thank you, I still have to dig into my problem. The car has been sitting for nearly a month.

I believe there is a Piersburg or something like that, pump out there.
A while back I was looking for a replacement for my daughters old 924 and it seems I came across the name Piersburg as a replacement. I ended up with a '79 911 Bosch pump which is what the superceded pump is now for the old 924's. I wish I could remember more but try searching the web for Piersburg (it may have been in a Performance Products catalog).

I'm probably Pelican's reigning champion cheapskate, and I probably would not be interested in using an aftermarket fuel pump. Those things work HARD, and I don't like walking away from my car on a deserted stretch of road in the middle of the night while it's raining.

Many years ago, I tried to start my 930 which had been sitting a long time. I found that the front pump was frozen. I soaked it in carb cleaner and hit it with 10 vts once in a while. After a couple of days of soaking and rinsing it out, I pulsed it one more time and it worked!

FWIW, I've been running an universal Bosch pump, PN 0 580 254 909 (got mine for $150 when I was in Maryland) for about 12K miles on my '78 motor without problems. Pelican may be able to get it for you?

Walbro Makes One
I have recommended this item to Pelican. Walbro makes an in-line pump that is a one for one no brainer install. Around $150.
I've had one on my '83 for around 6 months. Good Luck, Gordo
