Calling all grease experts...
 

I'm getting ready to do a clutch/flywheel upgrade on my '95 993, and I'm wondering what type of grease would be best to use on the guide tube, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing.

I see Warren in the past said he uses Moly EP, which is good enough for me.

So, should I order some Swepco 101, or would one of these (which I have sitting on my shelf already) be OK:

1 - Valvoline Synpower grease - for CVs, bearings etc. "moly-fortified".

2 - CRC Industries Sta-Lube EP Moly CV Grease

I'm probably overthinking this, but I want to be sure I get it right the first time.

Any heavy grease with molybdenum will be fine. Remember less is more:)

Hey Colin,

I don't know what tranny you have but if it has the vertical shaft in the bellhousing you might want to take it apart and clean the old grease out and relube. That makes a huge diff in the clutch feel.

I believe JW posted some dealer high temp grease for the throwout brg/tranny shaft.

JW says,

" porsche sells optimoly high pressure grease #000.043.024.00. it's for things like pilot bearings and clutch cross-shaft bearings that may never see grease again."

Use the Porsche grease. Never grease the release bearing guide tube if using the factory clutch release bearing. The bearing will have a plastic inner liner with a split in it, grease causes stickiness. This is as the factory technical bulletin. Always grease the end of the slave cylinder rod, use an anti-seize or similar grease.

Bosch distributer grease. Very high temperature and it stays in place at high temperature. Pelican lists it.

BTW, Grady has neat little trick - cut a groove in the clutch tube to let any leaks drain out. Search on my name, Grady Clay and transmission and (probably) 901.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll get the special Porsche grease.

I'm upgrading to the RS/Lightweight single-mass flywheel, so it's all factory parts.

Britwrench, you saved me from making a mistake on the guide tube - thanks for posting.
