Fellow Chicagoland Pelicanite Rocks!

A shout of "thanks" go out to Mike Bonkalski, whom I met for the first time while buying some parts from him. We chose a mall as a half way meeting point and I drove my '72 targa to get a last drive before the snow.

On the way back, just as I was getting on the on-ramp to the freeway, the throttle linkage snaps! I called Mike to see if he could help and he runs to Home Depot; picks up some duct tape, pliers, and wire and comes over to my location. After about an hour and a half working in the cold Chicago wind, we (he, because I wasn't much help), couldn't get a temporary fix to work.

We finally gave up and I called a flatbed that towed me 22 miles to my wrench. Again, "thanks Mike", for all the effort!

Yep, Mike's a real nice guy...and a fellow gruppeB'er. Plus, us '72 guys are always a helpful bunch!! There's alot of Chicagoland guys that help each other out with their cars be it wrenching, or parts/equipment. Mike has my engine yoke right now (...hopefully he lets me drive his 2.7RS in exchange ...)

...on that note, time to go and help fellow Chicago guy "einreb" with his suspension work...

It's a sweltering 40 degrees in Chicago today, can't pass that up!!

I'm glad you got home all right. What a day! I really thought we could have gotten that thing to work. On the way home, I was thinking that we could of rigged some sort of hand throttle using the wire, but it would have been a b!tch to shift.

Thanks for the kind words, it was my pleasure to help out. Any Pelicanite or Gruppe B'er would have done the same.

You have a sweet '72. It looked awesome when you drove by after picking up the parts. It even looked good sitting on the side of the road.

Let us know how the repairs go or if you have any questions.
