A/C bracket removal?

I removed most of the parts to my a/c over a year ago and now that I have decided that it will stay that way I would like to remove the bracket that the compressor attaches to.

How the heck do get that thing off, short of dropping the engine?

I found the 17mm bolts underneath that hold it on but I see no good way to break them loose.

Anyone out there done this?

If you 86 is like my 87 then maybe these pics will help. My engine is out of the car. It looks like you may have to remove the rear engine tin to get at the last bolt for the bracket. If yous is not like mine then I guess I cannot help but I wish you good luck!

There is a bolt under the tin.

I just removed mine a week ago. I had read several posts indicating that you would need to remove the muffler in order to reach the lower two bolts. On my car, I was able to access them from below with a wrench without removing the muffler (I have a GHL, if that makes a difference). Although I got them both loose with no problem, the lower bolt wouldn't slide out enough to disengage (blocked by the muffler bracket), so I opted to cut the bolt shaft instead of removing the muffler & bracket. The upper bolt would slide out enough to disengage, and with a wiggle and change of angle from above, it came the rest of the way w/ no problem. Hope this helps...

ps: If you can't get enough leverage on the bolt to break it free, interlink it with another wrench to increase leverage (...does that make sense?).

Yeah actually if you look from underneath it has 2 bolts. I was just hoping to get this thing out without major surgery.

No such luck I guess
