Caster/Camber Guage - El Cheapo

Does anyone have any info on this nifty product.

"Comes with foam lined storage case
Magnetic adapter has a 1.55" diameter recess in the face to clear spindle nut
Measures to +/- 8° caster & +/- 6° camber
Can be used without turnplates - Accurate to 1/4°"

I'm doing a complete suspension rebuild this winter, and it would be nice to gets things close before it goes to the alignment shop. Is this garbage or maybe worth a try?

you can measure camber with a carpenter's level.

I guess if you dont plan on doing it all yourself then what is the point. If you dont have faith in the shop you are taking it to then maybe thats your problem. It doesnt matter how close you get it for them its still going to be a flat alignment charge depending on what your having them straighten out. Sounds like a good idea like I said if you plan on doing it all yourself.

Plenty of faith in the shop that works on my car.

I will be corner balancing at home though, and if alignment is out of way out of whack, then the corner balance will change as they align the car. If I get things close, then the corner balance numbers shouldn't change much. Am I right here?

I could just use a level I guess, but was just wondering if anyone had seen/used this product and what they thought of it.

I have a couple of sets of similar. It's easy to use.. meaning when your tweaking camber it's wham bam quick. The castor involves moving the wheel right and left, etc. I just max out the camber and see if it drives straight.. it's been a good method for me so far.

fwiw, if your doing the corner weights yourself the string alignment method isn't that much more work. Do a search for the complete pic using Scruggs . I use a temp probe at 3 sections of the tire to further confirm my settings.
