It's a great product. But I think it would be a waste of money on heat exchangers. Especially on stainless.Dan

Actually, my Corvair Turbo had this done to the entire exhaust.
I was under it last week... I saw rust, where the ceramic coating was flaking off... Anyone know anybody besides Jet Hot that does ceramic coating?

Here is a pic of ceramic coated headers for my 3.5L:
![]() These are done in a "titanium" finish but silver, black & a navy blue are also possible. There may be other colors as well. Some guys only have the outside coated, it is best to have the insides coated as well. Some coaters have the capability, and some don't. Ralph EDIT: I don't know where Exeter, CA is, but Specialized Coatings in Huntington Beach, CA can powdercoat and ceramic coat just about anything and everything. Heres a pic of my coated headers, turbine housings, downpipes and wastegates.
![]() You can see more pics of them in this thread. I had everything done at Polydyn. My friends shop uses them for all thier ceramic coating.

I had Jet-Hot do my headers. Great product and customer service. Stainless 914-6 headers are $3000+ whereas coated mild steel ones are more like $800 (maybe even less, I don't remember); so for me it was an easy choice.

Toefco Engineering in Niles, MI, used to do a coating similar to JetHot that could be polished to a very high shine. Not sure if they are still into that not but it could be another source.

I had some headers I built for a 300zx, Jet-Hot coated, in the high temp blue, inside and out were done. There has not been any change in the finish of them, even where the O2 bung was welded in, and all the other welds, no chipping, no discoloration. These things do get hot with that 125 shot nitrous added. If I remember correctly, they charged me about $300.00 to do the set, and had them ready within the week. Shop is a couple hours away, and when I need the headers coated for my Roadrunner, I will use them again.

Swaintech is another company that applies ceramic coatings. I think their product is called Cerachrome or something like that.

They sent me some info and video a few years ago and an estimate for $215 for the heat exchangers only(I'm sure it's more now). The comparison specs definitly have me convinced in terms of retaining beauty/corrosion resistance/power gains(hotter air flows faster)/fatigue resistance to the steel welds. They coat them inside and out so I guess even all-metal mufflers could be done(?)
Considering how important in air-cooled cars the engine tinware and seals are in keeping HOT air out of the cooling fan and radiating onto the exhaust valve cover (especially after idling in traffic after a run) it makes sense to send it out the tailpipe. Not familiar with how it compares to other cramic coatings, but it looks pretty darn good and has an impressive reputation and portfolio. I'm sold. Last edited by john70t; 12-15-2004 at 12:46 PM.. |

I think High Performance Coating http://www.hpcoatings.com/ has been around longer than Jet and their work is very high quality. The single runner cast iron manifolds on my muscle car have been coated by HPC and they look great after many years.

Ten years ago, I was completing a BMW bike cafe project. I found a racing header exhaust system, but it was tired and rusting. After some fitment modifications and welding, I sent it off to Jet-Hot where they ceramic coated the system inside and out. Ten years later, it still looks like the day they shipped it back to me.

One of the coaters I use regularly can do ceramic coating. Early exhaust headers can be done (both sides) for 150-250.

What you really need are ceramic exhaust port liners. A ceramic coating on the headers, etc. is not going to be very effective. OTOH, no reason not to do it.

What?!?!

I recently went from this...
![]() ![]() to this for about $280 at Jet-Hot in Tempe, AZ ![]() ![]() I plan on keeping this exhaust for a while so the money made sense for me. I'm very pleased with how it came out and would do it again. YMMV
