washers for the engine and trans. mounts

I was trolling thru magazines for light wt. tidbits and found this:

In Nov. 1977, PAG said to install the big washers for the engine and trans. mounts with the concavity facing the rubber mounts. But, if rumbling noise is present, reverse them.

from Excellence #125, p. 20 - Dec. 2003 (that the BB2 and C-GT issue)

Randy:
I found the early cars had them facing away from the mount and the 83-89 cars facing the rubber mount. I thought it was used to protect the rubber mount.

I just removed my trans mount on my '76 and the washer was dished away from the rubber.

Yes, before that they were installed concave side facing the rubber. But PAG changed it as per above.

There must have been a TSB on it if BA put it in his column. Someboyd with the binder set of these things could look it up.

We had a long discussion thread on this some months ago.
Anyway, now we know what PAG thinks -- and why they think so.

Randy:
What do you think is the best application; noise or rumble aside.

Dunno. But I put mine on the 'new' way. It may not matter much. I'd go with the Wevo ones if they weren't so spendy (and - as usual - I bought brand new ones just before a better product came out... I've done this 7 or 8 ties now!)
