who has a TOTALLY stock car?

when l`m shopping for cars l look for stock, totally stock.l buy plenty of cars every year and l never leave them alone once they`re in the stable.l mod almost everything l own.Don`t get the wrong idea here because most of my projects are at least 20 years old,l`m not buying caviar.Cheap obscure collectables usually well under 10-k and l don`t hold onto them long because like l said,l can`t stop myself from "improving" them. My 911 is perhaps worth less then a mint example of the same year but l`ve dumped hundreds of hours and bucks into it. l left it stock for the first year as l learned how to drive it,then the mods began in earnest.l concede that the 84 911 is not the most collectable model but l sometimes long for the early days when the car was new,and totally stock.l guess it`s a silly question but those of you with stock cars,do you fight the urge to mod for the sake of purity?is the car just good enough as is? How do you control the process and keep the car stock?

I prefer stock.

I just like the cars for what they are good and bad points.

The only thing I couldn't live with on my SC was the steering wheel (Ugly).

I have been through the modified car scene with a mazda rx-3 and rx-7.

Funny thing is many stock cars usually fetch a bigger $ when you go to sell them, despite not paying for the car 3 times over with mods.

My car is bone stock. Well, OK, the gearbox is still stock. Everything else is different. :>)

not too many upgrades here. My T now has a hotrod 2.4E hi compression motor but that's it for upgrades. Next up, Seats and suspension.

With my project 74 911S I am set on the stock look from the bottom up. The only mods are performance and feel related, and are well hidden.

SC grind cam to replace the stock one. Short-shift kit to replace that sloppy stock feel and the Pertonics ignition. The rest is STOCK-STOCK-STOCK. I love the look overall feel stock and for me it's like having my own personal Time Machine. Everythime I sink into that seat and turn the key, it's 1974 all over again.

My 1971 911E is "Stock." It has to stay that way for race classification purposes. The only mods are:

1971 Karmann T tub
T Case
Complete suspension with huge torsions, Aluminum arms and monoballs
Fuel cell with '6AN plumbing
Safety Devices Full Cage
Momo racing seats with back brace
Safety Devices AFFF Fire System
Dual front oil coolers
Ducktail and "S" Spoiler

Other than those small modifications, it's STOCK!

This is a great/fun thread...

Is it me or is pretty much EVERYONE saying "my car is bone stock except for.... this, that, and well this and oh yeah that..."

Stock is (or at least can be) beautiful IMO but they ALL need to be driven (NEVER sell me your original 356 with 150 miles on the clock and think for a second it's going to sit in the garage) !

.....but modify... (or maybe "personalize" is a better word)
I never realized what it means to each individual person, isn't it GREAT !!!!

Mine's the way is was in the showroom inside and out and I like it that way.

I constantly get comments on it and people can't believe its 27 years old.

Sometimes I wonder which is more difficult or costly, trying to keep it stock, or making a bunch of mods to it.

To each his own I guess.

Never owned a stock car for long. Even the rare new car would get some "improvement" shortly after purchase. Although, if I think back, I did keep a new BMW 325i stock once... (But that doesn't count here, methinks!)

My 964 is completely stock. I occasionally think about doing this or that to it, but in reality, since I do drive it (esp since my red one is stalling this week randomly) it's enough work to keep it looking good as possible.
then again, I have the other one I'm always fkking around with, so maybe that's the reason I can pull it off.

I consider my car "stock" when compared to most every other 930 out there.

Of course, I do have the K-27 turbo upgrade - nearly everyone does it when their OEM turbo fails.... and the H4 upgrade - you can't drive blind....

So, mine is "mostly stock" and that is how I intend to keep it.

Edit: I forgot about my new steering wheel... the other was too skinny for me.

So... I guess my car isn't stock anymore.

Aside from the steering wheel and front wheels (an inch wider than stock), my car's the way it came from the factory. It would take me 15 minutes to put her back to showroom stock.

Oh yeah, all "original". Lets see, I dumped the sealed beams for H-1's. Suspension mods and 7" wheels, euro tail & turn light lenses with black trim, had the front bumperettes removed, holes filled & bumper resprayed. Got the matching leather sports seats from Stoddard's. Tried a sports muffler, dumped it, went to a stainless Leistritz (sp?). All of above done in the 70's! I've pretty much left it alone since, other than a recent removal and working over of the suspension last month. I think it's a natural thing...this buying of a car, then some changes to suit the owner's taste. It's just that by 1976 or so, I'd done all I wanted to do...I think the final results look okay...

I got my car in stock form from the PO (stock 30 year old shocks and all). It will mostly stay that way except for steering wheel, turbo tie rods, Koni Reds, 21/27mm torsion bars, and sports seats.

Most of these things I see more as "factory upgrades" rather than non-stock mods.

I "control the process" by doing a cost benefit analysis in my head. For example: Do I want a set of 16x9 Fuchs for the rear? Yes! Is it worth $1500 to procure such a set? No.

Mine was stock when I bought it.
Now,, Well lets just call them "factory upgrades".

So are 22mm and 28mm Torsion bars an upgrade or a mod?
