RSR or ST
Im in the process of either and RSR or ST conversion. The front is done now its time to decide what flairs for the rear. I would like to run 15x8 all the way around and either space them out on the rear for the RSR or do a ST. This is strictly a weekend driver no track use. What do you think. Comments. The car is a 70T

RSR stock rim size is 15x9 & 15x11. If you're going to use RSR flares I think 8's would not look too good, & would be spaced out alot! Of course real 15x9 & 11's are $$$$$.
Have you considered 16 or 17" rims? |
RSR flares will look too wide with 8s. Even the ST flares will look a bit wide...

Had an opportunity to get an as-new set once for $1,000 and passed it up.
Also threw out a presentable set of early door pockets once. Ah, the sins of the inexperienced. |
Go RSR. there are some good banded 11x15's about which, in my opinion, are fine for a street car (as long as they are in good shape) and, contrary to what people say, there are tyres for them, you just have to search for long enough (or buy the michelin TB15 rallye's)
But then I'm biased to the RSR......... |
There are tires available for 15's. However, there is not a ready supply of good, affordable, fresh tires for 11x15's. No Hoosiers for that size. None of the better street tires.
For rolling a car around and showing it, 15's make sense. They look really cool, and are correct for an early RSR. For doing any real driving, unfortunately, they're not much use any more. |
i'm putting together a ST style car right now (the flares are just taped on) and the 8" fit good on the front but i need some 1.5 spacers for the rears. i am selling the 8x15 fuchs copys and will be running the 8x16 mystery rims..

Jack, i hear what you are saying, but from what OLD911 is saying it looks as if he only using it at weekends with no track time. As for the tyres, the Michelin TB series is a very competent track based tyre. its compound is very soft and, although its tread pattern is very old school, the tyre was a competition tyre, they have just made it legal for the road now (although only just-4mm of tread depth from new!) but one of the better reasons for using this tyre, other than it allowing you to run 11x15's, is that it looks period correct for the car. and they do a tyre for the 9x15 too. other than that, you could hunt around for some new old stock YOKO AVS, they would probably last longer if you wanted to play on the track.

David I got my pair of 295/40/15 TB15's from these guys. they are in the UK but they ship wordwide, although you may want to find someone over your side as we pay silly money for everything over here! My TB15's are as soft as a race tyre, they ain't gonna last on the road that long, but it looks like michelin are finally producing the TB5 as well. Its the same as the TB15 but harder so perhaps an even better option for a street car.

Has anyone talked to Coker Tires? No, not for track tires, but they make great "show car" tires. Maybe they could get the rights for a tire this size.
Also, we as a group should get together with the Pantera guys as they have gotten short runs manufactored before. If PP or another builder could help commit to this then maybe it could be added to the "market" on these and get someone to build. Aren't there some "DOT" tires or vintage tire that could be wrapped in a "street" compound without reinventing the wheel or asking the manufactor to invest capital in this project? |
I think Dave at TRE is investigating getting a limited run of tires made in these sizes.
