Round Relay Behind Gauges

On my 1973.5 911, there is a regular relay (black, round) on the left behind the gauges. p/n 911.615.109.01

It isn't the horn or the turn signals. Any idea what it is?

I'm a little confused. If there is a headlight relay in the circuit, why are we installing a headlight relay in the front trunk?

I think I know the answer to my own question, the retrofitted relay takes the 'line' voltage out of the dash wiring and connects battery power directly to the lamps, like a horn relay does for the horn.

So, what does the underdash relay do?

Milt,

The primary function of that relay is to enable flashing the high beams with the light switch in the 'off' state ...

The 'flasher relay' was discontinued and left out of the system for SC and 3.2 Carrera production.

Since the size of the wires was never changed from the initial loading of the 45W/40W Type 'A' bulbs of 1963 ... the upgrade to new wiring and new dual/quad relays are always mandatory in my book!</b>

Thx Warren. The way they do the electrics on these cars never ceases to amaze me. No wonder they lost WWII!
