Sold my SC - a new search begins
Feeling a little blue here . After much procrastination and non advertising ( for sale sign in the window in the driveway) my wife found me a buyer for my 1982 911 SC targa. Turns out a husband of one of her tennis mates is in the market . He came and saw and had it inspected. It even came through MD inspection needing only a new rotor up front to pass . Not bad for a 23 year old.
I was actually hoping something would come up so he would walk away. Alas no such luck . And he gave me my ask price, even after I disclosed the minor warts I knew of..16k. So now I am sitting here just about 911- less and feeling the pain. Now for the new plan : A newer coupe , but do I stay with the old style ( through 89) or move to a 10 year old 993? Any thoughts , I am not in a rush here , and will hope to get something in the next year . I think mostly I am just looking for some folks to tell me I will get through this

Bob, by the PPI results, it sounds as though your car was in great shape. Why did you sell?
Figures that wifey would provide a buyer ![]() Go for any year 993, they are ALL great cars. 30+ years of development made it into the 993. Be warned, once you drive one, theres no looking back! Chris |

I don't get selling a 911 just to later buy a similar model.
Is this one of those cases where the wife is the reason you sold the car and now its time to repeat the cycle? |

Yes, what was the motivation to sell?

You sure you want to go forward and not back - you could get a decent longhood with that money, and adding a bit would land you a 911S even.
That's not even taking into consideration getting a 928S4 (0-60 in 5.5, 172 mph top speed, only a half second off the 996), 944 turbo (easily modded to 300 hp, cargo space, and the heater actually works!), or 968 (close in performance to the 993 for half the price). If I had a secure place to park it, I'd go with a longhood. Living in the city, I'd get either a 993 (the ultimate aircooled Porsche) or a 928S4 (best bang for the buck Porsche, non-turbo category). If I wanted to have some money left over to appease the wife, I'd get a 944S2 and a tennis bracelet. ![]() Emanuel

Yes the car was/is in great shape - 61k original everything works and tight . I put a lot of tlc in her.
We did a short term move recently and I lost the garage, had to cover the car . Somehow I agreed with my wife that we had too many cars and since we won't have a garage for a while , the 911 should have a good home somewhere. Like I said I didnt try very hard and she was happy she found someone. This guy is lucky , I looked far and wide for this car and now this is the first one he drove. Anyway - my wife knows that Porsches are an expectation not an exception ( I had one for 9 years before I met her). So I will let the dust settle and than move forward . I thtink forward is the way to go for a regular driver and I also fear rust having owned several British sports cars. My wife walked by a couple of Minutes ago and asked "are you really selling it" I responded taht I had a committment to the guy. Too late to ignore his phone calls etc Right? Thanks for the crying board

Hi Bob, IMO I would replace the '82 targa with another SC preferably a '78-'79 coupe with no sunroof

The more I consider these questions, the more I understand that the minimum number of Porsches to own is two. One for fun, the other for dates/commuting. The 993 would be a good commuter.
The black sheep of the garage would, I think, ideally have a galvanized shell. So, early SC shell. It might have a passenger seat next to the driver, maybe, but the rear area would not be for passengers. It would be set up so that there are few things you could remove.....and still drive once around the track. Most things would be needed for that trip.

Alas there is a darling little child involved in the process, other wise I could agree with the Valentines day sentiment noted above! There will be other 911s, but only one family I just got off the phone with the new owner, I am dropping the car to him Wednesday. Lucky guy.
